You are invited to celebrate International Permaculture Day and learn about Permaculture at our property north of Shinrone on May 3rd, 2026. Our eircode is R42P688.
Permaculture is a design method that works with nature, rather than against it. At its core, every permaculture project is built on three ethics:
- Earth Care: Restoring the health of the soil, water, and air.
- People Care: Ensuring individuals have access to resources, education, and healthy communities.
- Fair Share: Limiting personal consumption to ensure the planet’s surplus is redistributed to the first two pillars.
Permaculture is a practical approach to working with nature to regenerate land, grow food sustainably, and build resilient, community-centred ways of living.
Doors open at 10:30, we will start at 11:00
- What is permaculture: Talk and discussion
- permaculture Walk: See examples in practice.
- shared Lunch: Bring a dish to share.
- Growing Connections: A facilitated conversation on the relevance of permaculture today and exploring opportunities for a local group.

You will hear how Permaculture moves beyond “sustainable” (keeping things the same) to “regenerative” (making things better). Permaculture underpins:
- Food Security: Decentralizing food production to protect against global supply chain shocks.
- Climate Adaptation: Creating landscapes that can survive both extreme floods and record-breaking droughts.
- Mental Well-being: Reconnecting people with the natural world to combat “eco-anxiety.”
12 pm: Permaculture walk
There will be an opportunity to see how we are implementing permaculture concepts on our property and to answer any questions you may have. You will see:
- a wildlife pond for bio-diversity
- a small woodland (11,00 trees) for carbon sequestration, bio-diversity , and a future income potential
- a swale to divert water into the aquifer and provide hydration for willows
- different composting techniques
- a simple plastic free seed propagation method
