Learn about the different 11 sub groups of garlic and their distinct features.

What you will learn and discover at this workshop?

  • Garlic sub‑groups & cultivars Heat, spice & intensity levels
  • Why you shouldn’t judge a bulb by its wrapper
  • Personal scoring sheet to find your favourite garlic type
  • It is a raw garlic tasting and some special easy techniques using garlic to enhance your food. Pallete cleansers are provided by the presenter.

During the Tasting workshop, our host Peter Carroll of SCRAP Ltd and Sharon Moore-Lambert (Cultivating Hope) will cook up some lovely damper, for dipping into Garlic Kingdom’s infused, special garlic mixtures.

On the camp fire at the Yarning Circle (pictured above) Peter, will brew some tea made from various native plant blends that are grown around the garden and Bill the Beeman will introduce us to his beekeeping and the Garlic/Honey nexus.

We will conclude with an informative walk around the garden where Peter will be showing us what edible native plants can be grown easily in your garden.

Bring the kids and they can enjoy a fun day out and I’m told the chickens will need feeding, so I’m sure the kids will love helping with that chore on the day.

NOTE:

The workshops will be held at the Holsworthy Community Garden and the SCRAP Centre at 209 Heathcote Rd Holsworthy.

Free Parking is available for participants.

Turn at the traffic lights into Agnes Lane and take the first driveway on your left (50m down Agnes Lane) and go past the Return & Earn Machine (don’t forget to bring your cans and bottles on the day!). and proceed to the rear of the block where parking is allocated. Please bring a picnic chair if you need one.

We will have a gazebo setup, but in the event of extreme bad weather, the event will be cancelled/postponed.

PS. There will be compost made on site by SCRAP available for purchase at a discounted rate and some garlic seed specials sold for your garden and planting needs.
