Full Permaculture Design course over 6 weekends, Jan-May, 2026.
This is our 16th Edinburgh Permaculture Design Course with lead teacher James Chapman.
James runs fun, informal and interactive sessions and always gets extremely good feedback from the students.
This year we are working with the Arts and Ecology project at St Mary’s Cathedral and will also visitJames’ varied site , Willowburn Lea at Leadburn. We’ll be learning about trees, soil, water, map making, plants, forest gardening, woodland management, buildings, social permaculture and doing hands-on practicals. We’ll also be visiting a number of establsihed permaculture sites. The whole course gets rounded off with a design project and there’s an option to camp over at James’ home at Leadburn in Module 5.
Certified teachers
- James Chapman — has been running permaculture courses for 15 years. Former students have gone on to run their own smallholdings, food businesses, create gardens, build houses, and some have come back to help teach on the course. Our courses are interactive, experiential, friendly and inclusive, and students of all backgrounds and levels of experience are very welcome.

- Mod 1 : Jan 31st and Feb 1st
- Mod 2: Feb 21st and 22nd
- Mod 3: March 7th and 8th
- Mod 4 : March 28th and 29th
- Mod 5: April 25th and 26th
- Mod 6: May 16th and 17th
Cost
Sliding scale from £525 to £865 depending on income.
Option for work exchange.
