Description
Visitors to this urban permaculture garden (quarter-acre block in Ryde) will see many examples of permaculture in action. Animal systems including chickens, ducks and quails; raised ducks ponds “fertigating” fruit trees via a small urban swale; a mature food forest with fruit trees; a household grey water system irrigating the food forest; a herb spiral; keyhole herb and vegetable gardens; composting systems including a banana composting circle for grey water and waste; and many productive plant species for a range of situations. Permaculture zones provide a design framework for this garden and scattered throughout are examples of the use of recycled materials.
The property is home to the Permaculture Sydney Institute urban base where introductory permaculture courses and workshops are conducted and one of Sydney’s earlier Permaculture gardens. It appears on the latest Eco-films Urban Permaculture DVD.
Half hour tours will be conducted on the hour starting at 10am around the property. The final tour will be at 2pm.
